The next morning I woke early and headed back into the Superstitions, this time further east into Hewitt Canyon. At the mouth of the canyon, I climbed the extremely steep hillside for a few sunrise photos of an unnamed butte above the canyon. The road back to the highway was lined with some great displays of lupine that I couldn’t pass up. Back on 60, I crossed Gonzales pass near Superior, then backtracked toward Gold Canyon to a great patch of Parry’s Penstemon just a few feet from the busy highway. By now the sun was high enough in the sky for the light to be too harsh for photography, so I headed home to Alison and Brandon.
