Four Peaks Road
At the north end of Roosevelt Lake, El Oso Road climbs from the Tonto Valley, up the Matzatzal mountains toward Four Peaks, where it becomes Cline Cabin Road, and then to Highway 87 outside of Fountain Hills. Most people refer to the combined roads as Four Peaks Road. This road is one of the more scenic drives I’ve seen in the state, with great views of the Tonto Basin and the McDowell mountains, along with the high reaches of Four Peaks and many canyons and valleys throughout its course.
We stopped frequently for pictures and to take in the view. As we approached the end of the road, sunset was upon us and it was definitely a treat! Broad expanses of blooming Brittlebush, a low layer of clouds, and open skies on the horizon led to an amazing show of colors in the sky and on the ground as the day drew to an end.
