August : It's been a while since the last update. August was a very sad month for our family. Pretty much the worst month and days I've ever been through, but having Brandon nearby definitely helped to begin healing and figuring out how life would be in the future. In August he started standing on his own and continued to explore everything withing sight, and started to say Dog whenever he'd see the dogs walk by. He also got to meet his 2nd cousin Kameko. His "aunts" Sasha and Jasper seem to like him more than "sisters" Jessie and Kala do.

July : Brandon keeps getting more fun to be around. If he can reach something, first it's going on the floor, then it's going in his mouth. Early in the month we went to Santa Cruz boardwalk on a camping trip. He wasn't too sure about the merry go round at first, but liked it after a little bit. He likes hanging out in the rope swing while we work in the yard. Mid-month, we took him swimming for the first time and he actually liked the water. He also made the first of what will probably be many trips to Old Sacramento, and he got his first baloon which was lots of fun.

Needles : It was with great sadness that we went to Needles on the weekend of March 6th. On March 4th, my Grandpa More passed away, and we traveled to Needles to mourn our loss together with my granny, my parents, and "aunt" Sally. Brandon travelled very well and enjoyed spending time with everybody. He couldn't keep anything away from his mouth and has been developing even better hand-eye coordination.

Three and Half Months : Brandon at three and a half months: 17 pounds and 26 inches. We took him to the beach for the first time in early February, and have spent the rest of the time around the house, watching him fall asleep in his play saucer and now starting to put nearly everything he can hold on to into his mouth, and just barely starting to bring his hands up to hold his bottle.

Three Months : Brandon at three months old. My parents came to town to get their cargo trailer and Brandon had a great time with them, including our trip to Salmon Falls, normally under the water of Folsom Lake. The next weekend Alison and I took him to the Griffith granite quarry in Penryn and did some 4x4 stroller driving.

Back at Home : Back at home after an excellent time spent with family and friends. Monday was Brandon's first day at daycare. He did great, but it was pretty tough on Alison and I. A lot tougher than I thought, but he's in good hands there. This guy keeps growing too. He can now easily kick the ball on his playmat, and is even more vocal and attentive to what's going on around him.

On Sunday he met the rest of the family on both sides and some of our friends from when we lived in Phoenix. Thanks again to Nina, Tom, my Mom, and Grandma for putting together such a great event.

Christmas : Brandon's first Christmas. Spent in Needles with the More family and friends, before heading to Phoenix the day after Christmas for our exchange with Grandma Kathy, Grandpa John, and Auntie Rae (Lyrae). On Thursday, he reached for and finally made contact with a toy and then got the hang of how to reach for and touch things, primarily a yellow horse that my mom bought for him in Needles.

Week 7 and 8 : Up to 13 pounds now and finally able to be left alone for a few minutes while we get some work done around the house. It's really neat to see him just hanging out on the couch for a few minutes, able to occupy himself watching shapes on the TV or the stuff in his swing. In the last week, Brandon has started smiling a lot more, which is really amazing to see, especially after he spits up all over us! On the 19th, Brandon opened his Christmas presents from us, including a bottle of 2005 BV Reserve that he'll get to drink after he turns 21 and starts appreciating wine. On the 20th, we took our first big road trip to Needles, and what was normally a 9 and a half hour trip is now an 11 hour trip with all the feeding and changing. On the first full day of our trip, Brandon met his Great Granny and Great Grandpa More for the first time, and the next day met a lot more people at a meet and greet at my parents house.

Thanksgiving : From Brandon: My first Thanksgiving ever. How cool. I got to sleep in. Dad made Mom and him a huge breakfast, which I got to try a little later on in my own way. After a few hours of nap, my servants (aka Mom and Dad) took me to a nearby park to try out my fancy jogging stroller. I guess it's good, I slept in it the whole time even when dad had to drag me across a creekbed because he took a wrong turn. Once we got home from the park I made Mom change me and then Mom made me help cook dinner. Since I couldn't taste any of the eggplant puree or the lamb that they were making, I got bored so I went back to sleep real fast. I was sleepy the rest of the night and didn't do too much, but it was a fun first Thanksgiving.

Week 4 : Week four and a lot of fussiness. Apparently our little ball of joy has an intolerance to dairy, so Alison's diet needs to be limited for a while. This weekend he finally figured out how to put himself to sleep, just not 100% of the time. I'm sure I'll say it many more times, but it's incredible seeing the changes week over week. Friday marked the first time he'd had a bottle of Alison's breast milk. Now I can at least help with the feeding frenzies.

Another Day of Firsts : October 27 - only five hours of sleep Sunday night. He decided active time should be around midnight. Monday marked Brandon's first road trip as we returned to the hospital for a quick follow up. He slept nearly the whole day, until we gave him his first bath after dinner. Definitely not something he likes, but he does like his pumpkin outfit. Too bad he won't fit in it much longer. Last night we both got about 6 hours of intermittent sleep.

Recovery Day in the Hospital : October 25 - we spent the day just getting to know each other. He spent some time learning how to eat, studying our faces and some of my Utah photos, slept a lot, and of course there was the requisite pooping. We got home from the hospital a little before 4 and he's still asleep as of 6:30. All of the animals are pretty much indifferent to him now, although we'll see what happens at the first crying fit.
