Brian (bcm79)  > Day and Weekend Trips > Arizona Forests > White Mountains – Big Lake
July 26, 2012: The White Mountains of Arizona are a very un-Arizona like setting. The high elevation, rolling grasslands, and many lakes reminded me more of Montana than Arizona. The first day of our trip we took our canoe out on its maiden voyage on Big Lake. This was Alison’s first time in a canoe and my first time since Boy Scouts. It took a while, but my canoeing merit badge came back to me and we finally managed to start keeping the canoe straight. Brandon had a blast shouting at us to paddle faster. After getting off the water we stopped in Springerville for some basic supplies and for ice cream at DQ before settling into camp for the rest of the afternoon to relax.
